British designer John Galliano
Celebrities were the subject of the majority of searches over the past seven days with John Galliano, Charlie Sheen and Natalie Portman all appearing in the top ten Google Insights trends. The Oscars and Apple's iPad were also popular search terms.

Known for his flamboyant creations, British born John Galliano - the former designer for the house of Dior - hit the headlines last week after making anti-semitic comments in a Paris bar.

Despite the designer's sacking, Galliano's signature collection was still unveiled, albeit in a low-key show, on Sunday, March 6, as part of Paris Fashion Week.

The increasingly bewildering antics of Charlie Sheen, formerly of TV show Two and a Half Men, led to the US actor's appearance in second place in this week's Google Insights trends. His recent decision to open a Twitter account (@charliesheen) saw the actor set the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to reach one million followers, a feat that he achieved in 25 hours and 17 minutes.

Actor Christian Bale, who recently won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fighter, was the third most popular search term over the last seven days. Other winners at this year's Oscars, held on February 27, included Colin Firth for Best Actor (The King's Speech) and Natalie Portman for Best Actress in Black Swan.
The preview of Apple's latest gadget, the iPad 2, on  March 3, put the phrases "iPad" and "iPad 2" in fourth and tenth position in this week's charts. According to reports and Apple CEO Steve Job's speech, the iPad 2 is "33 percent thinner" and "up to nine times faster" than its predecessor.
The search terms with the most significant growth worldwide in the last seven days as measured by Google Insights, recorded on March 7 at 8:30 AM GMT, are:
1. john galliano (+650%)
2. charlie sheen (+600%)
3. christian bale (+450%)
