Brockeith Pane Tabbed America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball player Brockeith Pane has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 13, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
Pane, a junior from Dallas, Texas (Carter HS/Midland JC) was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Tournament after helping Utah State defeat San Jose State (58-54) and Boise State (77-69) to win the tournament championship. Pane began the tournament with 16 points and three rebounds in USU's semifinal win against SJSU and then had a game-high 19 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds in USU's championship game win against the Broncos. For the tournament, Pane averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while shooting 42.9 percent from the field (9-21) and was a perfect 17-for-17 at the free throw line.
This is the second Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Pane, as also earned the honor on Nov. 15. It is the eighth time a men's basketball player as garnered the weekly USU accolade.
Pane and the Aggies (30-3) are the No. 12 seed in the Southeast Region of the NCAA Tournament and will take on fifth-seeded Kansas State (22-10) on Thursday, March 17 at approximately 6:57 p.m. (PT) in Tucson, Ariz. at the McKale Center.
The battle between the Aggies and the Wildcats will air on truTV, which can be seen on Comcast Ch. 44 / Ch. 736HD in Cache Valley; DirectTV Ch. 246 or Dish Network Ch. 204. All NCAA Tournament games will also be streamed online at MMOD.NCAA.com.
The winner of the Utah State-Kansas State game will play the winner of fourth-seeded Wisconsin and 13th-seeded Belmont on Saturday, March 19.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Sophomore guard Devyn Christensen(Caldwell, Idaho) led the Aggies with 19 points in two WAC Tournament games including a win in the quarterfinal round 72-67 over New Mexico State on Thursday and semifinal loss (86-76) to eventual WAC Tournament Champions, Fresno State, on Friday. Against NMSU she was 5-of-12 from the field including a three-point bucket and 8-of-10 from the free throw line along with two assists. Against Fresno State, the sophomore added 5-of-12 from the field and 2-of-4 from three-point range. She went 7-of-9 from the charity stripe, adding six boards and three steals. For the week, she was 10-of-26 (38.4 percent) from the field, 3-of-9 (22.2 percent) from behind the arc and 15-of-19 at the free throw line while averaging four rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 seals per game in 34.5 minutes per game.GYMNASTICS - Senior Lyndsie Boone (Wintrop Harbor, Illi.) tied for fourth in the all-around with a 38.875 Saturday in USU's regular-season finale action at a tri-meet at Southern Utah, where the Aggies finished third with a 193.150 final score. Boone was USU's highest placer on vault, finishing 10th with a 9.800, as well as the top Aggie on beam, scoring a 9.700 to tie for seventh.
SOFTBALL - Sophomore pitcher Mandy Harmon (Las Vegas, Nev.) was solid in the circle for the Aggies despite going 2-7 last week in two doubleheaders and five games at the Long Beach Airport Marriott Invitational. In USU's 9-6 win over Cal State Bakersfield, Harmon struck out seven in six innings to earn the win. She also earned the victory in the Aggies' 3-1 nine-inning win over the Roadrunners. She pitched brilliantly in a pair of 1-0 losses against Sacramento State and Long Beach State. For the week, she pitched 36.0 innings allowed only 11 earned runs for an ERA of 2.14. Harmon finished the week with a 2-4 record.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD - Senior Clint Silcock (Salmon, Idaho) earned second-team All-American honors after finishing tied for 11th-place in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas on March 12. Silcock tied Major Clay of Indiana State with a jump of 2.15m (7-00.50). Silcock is now a three-time All-American, earning accolades at the 2009 Indoor Championships and the 2010 Outdoor Championships.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD - Junior Sonia Grabowska (Warsaw, Poland) competed in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and earned honorable mention All-American honors. It was Grabowska's second career NCAA Indoor Championships as she also qualified the last time the championships were held in College Station, Texas.
