
One of the candidates for the presidency, former UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohammed El Baradei, was hit in the back with a stone as he tried to cast his ballot in Cairo.
Despite the incident, officials say turnout was unprecedented.
An estimated 45 million voters were asked to vote '”yes” or “no” on a package of changes that include presidential term limits and limitations on the ability of the president to impose a state of emergency.
The count got under way straight after the close of polls Saturday night.
