Hall of Fame to honor Terry Cashman's "Talkin' Baseball"
For the second year in a row, the Baseball Hall of Fame is honoring one of the sport’s most schmaltzy and ubiquitous tunes.
Terry Cashman’s “Talkin’ Baseball” will be honored in July during Hall of Fame weekend in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Cashman will perform the song* as part of the Hall of Fame's new Awards Presentation, on Saturday, July 23.
*Can he go ahead peform "Talkin' Softball" as well?
In the same ceremony, the Hall of Fame will recognize the 2011 Award winners: Bill Conlin (J.G. Taylor Spink Award, for baseball writing), Roland Hemond (Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award), and Dave Van Horne (Ford C. Frick Award, for broadcasting excellence).
You might remember that last year, the Hall of Fame honored John Fogerty’s “Centerfield” — the first time a musician or song was celebrated in Cooperstown.
And while some of you might have some issues with the, uh, timelessness of these songs, Royals fans can at least grab hold of this:
In another small way, Dan Quisenberry (he appears with 1:05 left in the following video) will be a part of the Hall of Fame ceremony.
*And maybe this gives a boost to Alabama’s Randy Owen, who has to think that “Cheap Seats” is only a year or two from getting a hall call.
