Sooners silence Aggies’ bats in Big 12 opener
NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma starter Michael Rocha held Texas A&M hitless for six innings and struck out 13 as the Sooners defeated the Aggies, 1-0, in the Big 12 baseball opener for both teams.
Kevin Gonzalez broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle to lead off the seventh inning. Rocha gave up three hits in 82/3 innings. Reliever Ryan Duke got the final out for Oklahoma.
Garrett Buechele drove in the lone run with a single in the seventh inning.
Texas Tech 6, Baylor 5: In Waco, Nick Popescu’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning broke a tie and gave Texas Tech the win, ending Baylor’s winning streak at seven games.
Texas 3, Kansas State 0: In Austin, freshman Jacob Felts singled home two runs in the first inning, and Taylor Jungmann (5-0) limited the Wildcats to five hits in eight innings as the Longhorns won their Big 12 opener. Freshman Corey Knebel picked up his fifth save with a perfect ninth inning.
Oklahoma State 3, Kansas 1: In Lawrence, Kan., Mark Ginther’s single with two outs in the third inning knocked in two runs and the Cowboys (14-3, 1-0 Big 12) held off Kansas (7-10, 0-1). OSU starter Brad Propst (3-1) scattered six hits in eight innings. Chris Marlowe struck out the side in the ninth for his third save.
UT-Arlington 2, UT-San Antonio 1: In Arlington, Ryan Walker’s RBI single in the ninth scored DanielJordan and gave UT-Arlington a win over UT-San Antonio in the first of a three-game series. UTA pushed a run across in each of the final two innings to win its fifth consecutive game.
Nebraska 10, North Dakota 1: In Lincoln, Neb., DH Kash Kalkowski went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs.
