Val Claret webcam, 14 March showing the SuperPipe
The Ski Club's Lucy Jennings has all the gossip in the build up to the international freestyle eventToday is the first day of the Winter X Games Europe inTignes and we are lucky enough to be in resort to catch every bit of the action. In only its second year, this is an event that really captures the imagination of freestyle skiers and snowboarders across Europe.
Today is also the first chance the competitors have had to scope out the massive SuperPipe and Slopestyle course – take a look at our video blog on Facebook for a peak at the Slopestyle. The first thing that strikes you is the sheer size and steepness of the SuperPipe – it really isn't for the faint hearted!
We've already bumped into a few of our fearless home-grown stars such as snowboarders Jamie Nicholls and Jenny Jones who seem confident and in good spirits ahead of the competition on Wednesday. We’re also keeping an eye out for James “Woodsy” Woods, who’ll be in the ski competition.
All three riders have had a strong season – Jamie will be competing on the back of a win at the 4 star Ride Shakedown TTR event over the weekend, Jenny Jones got Slopestyle silver in the Winter X Games in Aspen (she’s also the defending Slopestyle champion here in Tignes) and Woodsy had his own success with a top 10 at the World Freeski Championships.
There is a buzz of anticipation amongst the crowds visiting Tignes and everyone is taking their chance to get some skiing in before they turn their attention to the freestyle displays which they will be enjoying for the rest of the week, we can't wait!
