The battle for Abidjan

Friday, April 1, 2011

Heavy fighting has been taking place around strategic buildings in Abidjan, the main city in Ivory Coast, as the battle for control of the country appears to be reaching a climax.
The state television, RTI went off air last night and there are reports of fierce fighting around the residence of encumbent president, Laurent Gbagbo.
As his forces entered Abidjan, the internationally recognised president, Alassane Ouattara called on the rest of the army to defect.
Emmanuel Bombande is the Executive Director of the West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP), BBC Network Africa's Akwasi Sarpong asked him if he believed this was the final battle for Abidjan?
