Eight areas of China have detected multiple radioactive isotopes. That's according to the latest announcement by China's National Nuclear Accident Emergency Coordination Commission.
On Sunday, all but one of China's 32 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions on China's mainland had detected radioactive iodine-131.
Since then, eight of them, including Beijing and Tianjin, also detected radioactive cesium-137, and cesium-134. But radiation levels remain low and no abnormality has been found in food and drinking water samples.
Authorities from the World Meteorological Organization, the State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Health believe that the radiation will not pose any threat to China's environment and public health, and have so far not recommended protection measures.
